Living the California dream
… and Trash …
It’s AWESOME to live in California ! Beach and Surfing all year long. But lot’s of people on the beach leave far too often all their trash behind!
In Southern California, the beaches attract millions of visitors each year, but unfortunately, some beachgoers are contributing to the pollution and degradation of these natural treasures. Despite the availability of trash bins and recycling facilities, a significant number of beachgoers leave their trash behind that accumulates on the sand and washes into the ocean. Disposable items like plastic bottles, food wrappers, and single-use plastics are some of the most common pollutants found on these beaches. The careless disposal of trash poses serious threats to marine life and coastal ecosystems and tarnishes the beauty of the coastline.
Consequences of Beach Trash !
The impact of this pollution extends far beyond the visible debris. Sunscreen lotions, oils, and other personal care products that people use can contain harmful chemicals that eventually find their way into the water, contributing to water pollution. Additionally, abandoned fishing gear, such as nets and fishing lines, can entangle marine animals, leading to injury or death. The effect of these actions takes a toll on the delicate balance of coastal ecosystems, harming marine species and undermining the overall health and biodiversity of Southern California’s marine environments.
We can address these issues by organizing beach clean-ups in our local communities and provide educational programs. By encouraging responsible behavior and emphasizing the importance of preserving our coastal ecosystems, it is possible to reduce the impact of beachgoer-generated pollution and protect the natural beauty and ecosystem of Southern California’s beaches for generations to come.
Next Beach Clean up !
Join us on our next Beach Clean Up day! We usually clean for about 2-3 hours, walking along the beach, picking up as much trash as we can.
